The Cessna Citation CJ2 redesigned their popular CJ1 private jet, known for its low operating costs and high performance, the result was the CJ2: bigger, faster, and better.
The Cessna Citation CJ2 cabin stretched an additional thirty-three inches, the wingspan stretched an additional thirty-five. Its cruise speed outdoes the CJ by thirty knots with a significantly reduced fuel burn.
Also, only 9% of the 238 Citation CJ2 jets in operation today are in fleet ownership with 2 fleet operators (Centreline Air Charter Limited and Windrose Air Jetcharter GmbH) having 3 aircraft each. Additionally, 7% of the Citation CJ2 jets are leased.
The Citation CJ2 is powered by two Williams-Rolls FJ44-2C engines each offering 2,400 pounds of thrust. The Citation CJ2 uses 139 gallons per hour (GPH).
The design goals of the Citation Jet series can be summed up in three words: simplicity, economy, and performance.
This proved to be a challenge, especially in creating an aerodynamic structure that is inexpensive to produce and handles well.
Previous Citations had used a straight wing, which slows the aircraft considerably but dramatically reduces production and design costs.
The CJ2 is extremely easy to fly and can be single-pilot operated. The Citation line was designed for forward-thinking businessmen that would fly their own private jets to and from business meetings, resulting in several automated systems and a simple avionics system.
The cabin typically holds six passengers and has a total volume of 243 cubic feet. Its three baggage compartments can carry a total of 1,100 pounds of luggage, all but 100 of which can be stored externally for a less cramped cabin. The cabin is 50 cubic feet larger than the cabin of the CJ1, allowing for an additional seat.
The CJ2 maintains the tradition of the private jet Citation line: economy, simplicity, and performance. Its operating costs are just as low as the original Citation Jet, but it offers a lot more range and a faster cruise speed.
The range of the Citation CJ2 is 1,511 nm operating under NBAA IFR 4 passengers with available fuel. The cabin volume for the Citation CJ2 is 248 cubic feet. Typical configuration features 7 passenger and 1 crew seats.

The Cessna Citation CJ2 (Model 525A) differs most significantly from its predecessor the CJ1 (model 525) in respect to its markedly increased range and payload capacity. It comes in two forms: the original CJ2 and the newer CJ2+.
The First delivery of the Cessna Citation CJ2 occurred in 2000. The series ended production in 2005. During that time, a total of 243 aircraft were built with 238 Citation CJ2 jets in operation today.
By continent North America has the largest percentage at 60%, followed by Europe at 24% for a combined total of 84%.
When Cessna redesigned their popular CJ1 private jet, known for its low operating costs and high performance, the result was the CJ2: bigger, faster, and better.
The Citation Jet upgraded to a natural laminar flow wing, which took four years to design in a joint venture between Cessna and NASA. This wing delays the onset of airflow separation longer, which improves the lift-to-drag characteristics ten to fifteen percent when compared to earlier straight-wing designs.
Speed is now at 460 miles per hour, which is a welcome change from 437 in the Citation Jet.
The CJ family of Citations demonstrates Cessna can continually improve on a product by adapting them for different missions, and they have a winner every time.
The changes brought forth on the Citation CJ2 are much like the changes from the original Citation I to the Citation II.
Just like the changes of the Citation I to the Citation II, the changes from the CJ1 to the CJ2 are incremental and at the same time carry vast improvements.
Cessna has a winning method in continually improving their products. The Citation CJ2 is a stunning example of this philosophy.
It was intended to have increased range, increased cabin room and increased speed. It succeeded hugely in all those aspects.
The extra 31 inches of cabin room, afforded by the fuselage stretch, makes for a comfortable six passenger cabin, up from a cramped 5 passenger cabin.
The second version of the hugely popular Citation Jet and CJ1, the Citation CJ2 was a very well-received plane.
The stretch in the fuselage of almost three feet added room to accommodate an additional passenger, while keeping plenty of room for a galley.
The natural laminar flow wing allows this aircraft to fly faster than its predecessors, all the while consuming much less fuel.
The Citation CJ2 offers exceptional fuel efficiency and low operating costs.
Seating up to 6 passengers in comfort, this aircraft is perfect for short, medium and long range trips, capable of landing at all major Australian centers and most regional airfields, many of which are not serviced by scheduled jet services.
Complimentary beverages and catering, tea and coffee, pull out tables. Three independent GPS navigation systems, weather radar, storm scope.
There are 238 Citation CJ2 jets in operation with 12 in shared ownership and 226 wholly owned.
